Want an easy and creative way to record and share your ideas, stories, and music with others?  Podcasts are quick and easy to create and share.  The following are just some examples of audio platforms available for free.

My Podcast on SoundCloud

SoundCloud is probably one of the easiest audio platforms available to create your podcast.  You can upload, record, and share music, stories, and ideas with your friends, colleagues, or anyone you choose.  You can login through Facebook, Google, or your email address.  You then create your account and follow the easy steps to create your podcast.  SoundCloud is free, but you can upgrade to SoundCloud Go for $ 9.99/month.
I found this audio platform the easiest to use.  I think it is the best one to start with, especially if you are going to have students using podcasts in the classroom or library.

AudioBoom is another free audio platform.  You can share audio via iTunes, GooglePlay, Spotify, Stitcher, Facebook, Twitter, and other mobile apps.  You sign-in with your email or username and a password. You can upload a recording you have already created or create a new one.  AudioBoom first asks for permission to use your camera and microphone.  You then record your message and save.  You then type a title and description and can upload a photo or image.  Finally, you click on publish.
I did not find this program as easy as SoundCloud.

Podomatic is another free audio platform.  Creating a podcast on Podomatic is easy because there are 5 easy steps provided to guide you in creating your first podcast.  First, you select a media; Second, you enter a title and description; Third, you add an image; Fourth, you choose a quality level; Fifth, you publish.  You can log-in with Facebook, or your email and a password.

Podcasts in the Library/Classroom

Creating a podcast is a creative and new way to jazz up a lesson or presentation.  There are multiple uses for podcasts in classrooms and libraries.
Students can use podcasts to present an oral report, report on current events, interview guests, create audio tours of their schools or field trips, and even create a reenactment of an important historical event.
Librarians and teachers can create podcasts about important school or library events, have students create a library of podcasts of short stories for other students, and record the fluency of their students.  Teachers and librarians can even share those podcasts of children reading with parents to keep them informed of their child's progress.  Teachers can also record tutorials and have their students listen to them at home.
Another advantage of using podcasts is that you can add music and sound effects to many to make your lessons or presentations more interesting.  Podcasts are a fun and creative way to involve students in the activities in the library and classroom.

  1. Yes, podcasts are a creative way for students to present reports, book reviews, or even an interview. Instead of simply standing in front of a classroom to present their project, they can create a podcast and have the other students listen and create their own too. Podcasts are a fun and easy way to keep our students engaged.
