Blog Reader

FEEDLY

I chose Feedly as my blog reader.  I found it very easy to understand and use, especially for a "technology novice" such as myself.  Feedly is free, unless you choose to upgrade to the Pro plan which is $ 65/year.  Feedly is best for the purpose of building a personalized newsfeed.  The platform is for Web, iOS, and Android.  With the use of Feedly, you no longer have to go to each individual blog, but can see the latest postings in one place of your favorite blogs.

Kathy Schrock’s KaffeeKlatsch

Kathy Schrock has been a school district Director of Technology, an instructional technology specialist, and a middle school, academic, museum, and public library librarian. She posts her thoughts and discoveries about the latest educational technology.  Since I am a novice when it comes to technology, I enjoy reading this blog, because Kathy Schrock’s blog is well-organized and not very technical.  She understands a teacher’s and librarian’s point of view and provides the latest information, often along with a whimsical note or idea.  Very informative and easy to read!

Joyce Valenza is an Assistant Professor of Teaching at Rutgers University School of Information and Communication, a technology writer, speaker, blogger and learner. This blog contains the latest information on library trends, planning, technology, and other useful resources.  I like this blog because it is an extension of a magazine that I subscribe to, School Library Journal.  I think this is a reliable and informative library resource for all librarians.

Library Displays

Elaine Pearson is the librarian at Horowhenue College in Levin, New Zealand since 2014.  This site provides creative ways in how to design displays in the library that will promote the resources found there.  I had never seen this site, but I like the idea of having a resource that can give librarians fresh and creative ideas for displays in the library.

BookPage serves as a broad-based selection guide to the best new books published every month. All of the content from the print edition is posted on BookPage.com each month. This blog site also provides weekly links, news/awards, guest posts, recipes, and several other resources.  As a librarian, it is important to have resources that deal with lots of different issues.

This is the official web log of the American Association of school librarians.  As librarians, it is important to belong to an organization that positively promotes our profession such as AASL does.  I really like reading the magazine they publish and visiting the blog to see what is new.  The site has recently launched a new site called Knowledge Quest that will include the organization’s blog.  The blog is kept up-to-date and current on just about every topic dealing with library issues and beyond.
